Description
Carlinville's historic town square has been on the National Register of Historic Places in Illinois since 1976. More than 20 buildings with cast iron and galvanized steel decorations on the store fronts, make the Square a showplace of this historic turn of the 20th century style. The Squre is one of two sections of Illinois Route 66 which is bricked paved. The ssquate has been paved since the 1890's. The Square is the only square shere Route 66 goes completely areond the Square.
